The theme for this week’s photo challenge is “Out of This World.” The assignment was to “share a picture that takes us on a journey into the unknown.”
The photos I chose to feature definitely look like something from another world. Devil’s Postpile in the High Sierras near Mammoth, California, is an amazing natural wonder of hexagon-shaped basaltic columns formed from lava, glacier, fire, and ice.
This magnificent piece of nature’s art is a national monument.
Doesn’t it blow your mind?
The video below takes you on a quarter-mile hike to get to the awesome splendor of the postpile. To skip the trail part and view the Devil’s Postpile, go to 13:00 minutes into the video.

What are your thoughts? Have you been to Devil’s Postpile? Do you like to take nature hikes? What’s one of your favorite natural wonders?
I’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to receive future posts, sign up by email in the sidebar.
