Have you ever been out in public and your shoe broke?
A couple of days ago, I had just entered Macy’s to look for high heels to go with a new dress. Right there in the shoe department, the platform sole of my shoe came loose. I took another step and it completely fell off!
I limped through the store until I found a bench to sit on. Then I pulled off the sole of the other shoe (see short video below).
My youngest sister gave me these platform sandals a couple of years ago, and this was the first time I’d worn them.
Once the platform soles were gone, the shoes were way more comfortable as flats, but they were barely holding together. I was able to wear them home before more parts fell off.
As soon as I got home, it was time to pitch what remained of those platform sandals. They did not deserve a poem (not a nice poem, at least) like my trusty old slippers, which had served me well for many years.
My daughter Amy helped me look for heels at Macy’s to go with my $18 navy and white dress from Ross.
These comfortable Alfani shoes will work well for the dance moves (just a couple) for my upcoming speech competition. Wish me luck!
Good thing I wasn’t planning on wearing my black fishnet stockings for the contest because I accidentally put a hole in them just before leaving for my Toastmasters meeting the other night.
I came up with a bright idea to camouflage the hole. A dab of black permanent marker and no one would be the wiser. The run was barely noticeable, so I wasn’t worried about it.
Then I moved and so did the hole. Drat! Oh well, fashion faux pas. Tsk! Tsk! I wore them to the meeting anyway, where I got to practice my speech. Again.
No one seemed to notice the black marker spot on my leg, the hole in my tights or the runner. It’s a shame I’ll have to toss those fishnets. They held up way better than regular pantyhose.
Screen shot of practicing my speech.
You can’t even tell the tights were damaged.
Here’s a short clip showing how easily the other shoe was to break apart:

What are your thoughts? Have you ever had your shoe break out in public? What did you do? Any other outfit malfunctions? I’d love to hear from you.
Ha ha! Great stories, Lynnie. Yes, I did have a shoe break in public as a matter of fact. The funny thing was I actually put my stiletto heel into a hole in a grating and I walked on while the heel remained in the ground. I couldn’t get it out and had to hop-along home 😀
Oh darn, Yvette! That’s the problem with stiletto heels. They can get us in a lot of pickles, but they can also be used as a weapon for self-defense if the need ever arises. Not on your feet. Haha! In your hands. I don’t know of anyone who’d be happy to get nailed in the face with a stiletto!
p.s. Good luck for the competition!
Thanks, Yvette. I’ll let you know how it goes!
