Today’s my dad’s 81st birthday. He’s hard to buy for, but there’s one thing that makes him light up. A card with a fresh dollar bill inside. He said it brings back all the excitement he felt as a kid when he’d open a greeting card and find a buck inside.
Last year the family bombarded him with birthday cards containing dollar bills. We also went to brunch and celebrated with my siblings, their spouses, the grandkids, and great-grandchildren.
Dad received separate cards from each family member and also from many of our pets!
He’s still physically fit. Below is short video of Dad dancing and joking around in front of the green screen I rigged up on Christmas Day. I took some costumes, funky wigs, and hats just for fun. (If you missed that post, you can read about Green Screen Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make here.)
The background I used for this new green screen video might make you dizzy, but it kind of fits the pink wig. Dad was dancing to “Gimme More” by Brittany Spears!

This post wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging my beautiful mom, the one who stood by Dad through good times and bad. I’m truly blessed to have both of them in my life.
Happy Birthday, Dad!

Aww… Happy Birthday, Lynn’s Dad! He sounds like a great guy…and how cool about getting excited about crisp dollar bills (I’m not at that place yet, cause I still like $100’s). Love the video. He’s in pretty good shape for a guy that young. 🙂
Thanks, Kristy! Can’t blame you for liking $100’s!
Hahaha, I remember you talking about last year on his 80th. He sounds like such a fun guy. Well gosh! He has to be. Look at his daughter, Lynn! They both look great too. I wanna look like that at their age. Can’t watch the video. (Dang satellite internet.) Tell him I said, “Happy birthday, Lynn’s papa!” Still working on your email. Today we’re at the hospital with Christopher. Maybe I can send it tonight if I’m not too tired from the day. Love you bestie! Always and forever. <3 xoxo
You’re too sweet, Robyn. I, too, want to look like that at their age! I hope things are getting better for Christopher. Your health and getting some rest comes first before worrying about sending emails. Seriously, please take care of yourself, bestie. I love you, too, and want you and all your family members to be well. XOXO
Your dad is fantastic! What a fun guy. Send him my Happy Birthday wishes!
Thank you, Susie! You’d love him. He plays tennis twice a week for three hours at a time. Didn’t learn how to play until he was 40, and he’s been passionate ever since!
Wow! Super cool! It’s easy to see where your personality comes from, Lynn.
Aw, thank you, Stephanie! I agree some of his goofiness rubbed off on me, only he’s actually funny and goofy, and I’m just plain goofy. Happy goofy! 🙂
Happy Birthday to your dad! So cool that he hasn’t lost the magic of childhood in getting those $1 bills. 🙂
Thanks, Jennette. Yes, I think it’s cool, too, that he still has a bit the magic of childhood. It’s a wonderful thing.
Happy 81st birthday to your dad, Lynn!! 🙂 What a fun way to celebrate by all the $1 bill cards.
Thanks, Teresa. It was fun reading all the comments in the cards, and we can all afford a buck! Doesn’t break the bank! 🙂
Tgat is amazing dancing at his age. Happy Birthday! What a funky family!
Thanks, Catherine! Yes, I think he’s pretty darn spry for his age. We’re definitely a funky family! 🙂
Happy Birthday to your dad. I love that photo you posted. What a smile!! 🙂
Thank you, Coleen! I love his smile in that photo, too!
Your Dad is one of those forever youthful types. Many happy returns to him! xo
Thanks so much, Alarna!
