Homemade Gift – Decorated Box – Altered Art Box – Art Therapy

A decorated box is an easy and economical gift. I like to call it altered art, but it’s basically fancy scrapbooking.

This is another homemade gift idea if you’re looking for something to make from the heart.

This is a decorated box I made for my sister last year, a fun decorated box with surprises for a grandma to have on hand when the grandkids come to visit.

When George was laid up in bed last year recovering from various things, first a surgery (lobectomy), then a massive blood clot which affected his heart and lungs (pulmonary embolism), then chemo, I turned to art therapy to help take my mind off ugly thoughts.

It’s a wonder I was even able to make sense making this video. I did misspeak, saying “clip art” when I meant “chip board.” I also mentioned I added costume jewelry, but I couldn’t find it because I got this decorated box mixed up with another one I had added jewelry to, but those are minor mistakes.

You’d never know I was on the verge of a breakdown, but when your loved one needs you, you have to hold yourself together, and there’s no time for breakdowns, so doing crafts helped me stay sane. I think. 🙂

Here are some other posts with more decorated boxes if you need more ideas: Mermaid box, altered art photo boxes.

At this time, George is doing well. He’s a walking miracle as far as I’m concerned. I’m writing a series about his (our) journey, but I’ve only published Part 1 so far. Seems to be harder to write about than I thought it would be. Slowly but surely I’ll get it written and share it with you. The good news is he’s alive and well. Not cured, but in a good place.

Do you enjoy arts and crafts? What are some of your favorite hobbies? What do you do to help you cope with difficult times? Are you enjoying the holiday season?
