Grammy Heaven – Parenting Plights & Delights

I’m in Grammy heaven again. Our oldest daughter gave birth to a healthy girl on June 3rd. She weighs 7 pounds even and is 20 inches long.

If this post has a deja vu feel to it, that’s because our daughter-in-law had a baby girl on May 21st, and I shared pics, a video, and details here.

George (aka Gramps) and I now have four grandchildren!

Of course I have to share more pics. First, here’s a picture taken the night before the birth.

The night before baby girl was born.

And now for pics of our newest granddaughter, her older brother Grasshopper (aka Punkin, but that nickname doesn’t really fit him anymore), baby’s proud parents, grandparents, and one of many aunties.

Here’s a 30 second video, proof I’m a goofball grammy, and the baby is sweet as can be.

Do you think the new baby cousins look related? They could pass for twins at this point, but that will soon change. Each grandchild is unique and special. I wonder what the odds are that all four of them inherited my quirky genes? What do you think?

The past two months have been ultra exciting for the extended family. Niece Tahnee had a baby boy in April, and Niece Carissa had a baby boy in May.

So, George and I now have eight great-nephews and four great-nieces. How cool is that?

I love what my sister said about her newest grandson:

“When I smell him, I say, ‘This is what heaven must smell like.’ You know, the baby smell that we wish would never go away.”

~Pam Elliott

Isn’t that the neatest quote? I think I’ll hang out in Grammy Heaven forever!

I used to be amazed at how fast the years would fly by, but these days I find myself reflecting on how a decade seems to pass in a flash.

“It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn’t.”

~Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams

How about your life? Is time whizzing by, or is it going at a nice, easy pace?

Do you have a parenting or grandparenting memory or another story you’d like to share?

If you’re not a parent, memories from your own childhood count, too!

Warning: I might feature your story in a future post.

(Names can be changed to protect the guilty!)

I’d like to thank all those who have shared their stories.

These posts wouldn’t be the same without your input.

I’ll never forget when my second son, Samuel, was born. It was my second marriage, and my husband’s first-born child. My mother and father made the long drive to Auckland. Dad shook my husband’s hand, and said, “Welcome to parenthood”. That greeting meant all the world to us, because Samuel had just been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Good old dad, knew just the right thing to say, as always. That sort of dignity comes with having 4 children of your own, and 7 grandchildren. Lynn, darling grammy, you’re on your way, babe. Congratulations to you all! Here’s to many more safe deliveries of precious little bundles 🙂

congratulations – the fourth time around.. looks like you will have some more material for books!

  3. Haahahahahaha. Looks like grammy is having a dang great time getting to know these precious little ones. I’m thrilled for you, bestie. That face of yours says it all. If you had only shown your pictures holding Grasshopper’s baby sis, or Twinkle toes’ baby sis, they would have spoken volumes. WOW. Now take a whiff! Hugs and smooches.

Robyn – Thanks, Bestie! Yes, this grammy is a happy camper. I’ve given both new granddaughters cheek kisses from you. They made little squeaky noises, newborn language that translates into sweet little baby-breath scented kisses right back atcha!

  4. I can’t get your page to load to sign up for updates (I’m having bandwidth issues again, you may have heard me whining at WANATribe), but it loaded enough for me to comment. LOL! Can I just import my comment from your WordPress site. 😉 xo

    • Oh, I lied…hahaha! (I hate my internet) I’m subscribing now! (and I meant your *other* WP blog site)

    • Lynn Kelley says:

Teresa – Thanks for going to all the trouble to leave a comment here! I don’t have bandwidth, but I’ve had internet problems since Saturday. I could only get on with my new phone (yep, steppin’ up in the tech world – hey! hey!), but I make so many blunders with it, I decided not to try to leave comments using it. Not till I get used to it!

  5. Congratulations, Lynn! Such happy news. And I love that video with your signature funny moment. 🙂

  6. Congratulations, Lynn! Wow, those lucky cousins! One more and they’d be a basketball team! So very cool. Thanks for sharing so beautifully, and for helping to rally us around Suzanne. Having just watched our older son graduate from college, I can definitely relate to that time-flying-by thing!!

    • Gretchen – Congrats on your son’s graduation from college. That’s a biggie and times like this make us look back and realize how fast those years went from there to here, don’t they?

Yes, one more and we’ll have a basketball team! Most of us are short in my family, so it would have to be a team competing just for fun! That’s the way I like it, anyway! Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Loved the video, Lynn! Your daughter has your voice. And your grand daughters — out of this word cute!

  8. Congratulations on the newest addition to your family. What a sweetie! Babies do have the best smell.

Time is going by fast for me right now. I am trying to enjoy each minute- but it is whipping by! Work is busy. 🙂

  9. Stephanie – Thank you! Sounds like things are going well, so it must be good that work is busy. I hope it’s work for your books. Take care!
