It’s A Girl! Parenting Plights & Delights

What a Scream - Halloween

The above left-hand photo of my son, daughter-in-law, and first grandchild, Little Twinkle Eyes, was taken in the delivery room just over three years ago. I was there to experience the miracle of new life.

Tuesday, May 21, 2013, the happy parents welcomed their second child, another girl, 6 pounds, 4 ounces. What a beautiful little doll, George’s and my third grandchild.

We arrived at the hospital just in time to see the nurse give the baby her first bath. Her favorite part was getting her hair shampooed. Here’s a short clip:

We missed seeing Twinkle Eyes, though. She was tired and needed to go home with her other grandparents. I had talked to her on the phone earlier that afternoon. She was all wound up and said, “I have a sister!”

Here’s Twinkle Eyes when I visited a week before her sissy was born.

The baby looks like her big sister.

It was a long night at the hospital for the new parents, so we didn’t stay long. They needed to catch some zzzz’s before heading home the following day to begin the next episode in their parenting-plights-and-delights journey.

Our daughters ‘Tulip’ and ‘Lily’ also went to the hospital to meet their new niece and congratulate their brother. ‘Tulip’ fit right in at the maternity ward. Her baby girl will arrive the beginning of June, so we have more awesome adventures in grandparenting heading our way. I’ll keep you posted!

“Grandkids bring you into a sweeter, slower present. They show you the future at a time when a lot of your friends are thinking about the past. And they take you back to childhood–theirs, the Parent’s, your own: a three-time admittance to wonderland.” ~Adair Lara, author of The Granny Diaries

I love that quote!

Do you have a parenting or grandparenting memory

or another story you’d like to share?

If you’re not a parent, memories from your own childhood count, too!

Warning: I might feature your story in a future post.

(Names can be changed to protect the guilty!)

I’d like to thank all those who have shared their stories.

These posts wouldn’t be the same without your input.

  4. Oh man, oh man, oh man!!!!! So exciting. Huggging you tight and sending cheek kisses to that beauitful little one. How much fun! Hmm. Makes me want one more. Scratch that.. I remember being couped up in the house last weekend with them because of all the rain. 🙂

    • Thanks for all the hugs, Bestie! I’ll pass those cheek kisses on to baby. Being a grandma took care of my desire to have more babies. With all those kids, you’re going to end up with oodles of grandbabies!

  5. Oh how adorable! They are both so cute. What a lovely time, enjoy!

  6. How very exciting!! Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter!! She is indeed beautiful! I’m grateful not to be a grandmother yet, and I have too many funny/wonderful parenting memories to share. 🙂 Hope your son and DIL will get some rest soon!

    • Thanks, Teresa. It’s nice to have grandkids when all our kids are grown. You’ve got lots of time and plenty of memories to make with your sons in the meantime. I hope you’ll share some of your parenting stories with me!

  7. Joni Hahn says:

Congratulations!! She’s beautiful! Your life is about to get a whole lot busier. What a blessing for all of you!

  8. Congratulations! She’s adorable! Amazing how they’re like this one day, and it seems like the next thing you know, they’re graduating from high school.

  9. Diana Beebe says:

Congratulations to your whole family! So beautiful!

  10. Congratulations! What a sweetie. Looking forward to the next installment! You’re going to be a busy grandma!

  11. Congratulations, Lynn! So awesome! And what a cutie, patootie!!

  12. Congrats on the arrival of your new granddaughter. What a cutie! It looks like your family is growing and won’t it be nice for the two new girls in the family to be so close in age. I always wanted a cousin who was closer in age to me (my closest one is 8 years younger). Enjoy every minute!

    • Thanks, Stephanie! I’m ecstatic our family is growing and it will be wonderful for the cousins, so close in age, to grow up together. Eight years is a big difference in age. I had a girl cousin who was my age, but I never met her. We lived in different states. Another girl cousin, two years older than me, and I were close until our family moved out of state when I was eight. I had boy cousins my age, too, and it was always fun to get together until we moved. There was a family reunion last summer, and it was so neat to reconnect with some of my cousins.

I love that quote. And the comment at the beginning about seat belts for parents. Man! When I think of how ignorant we were, barely knowing which end to diaper…and yet, somehow, the species survives. Congrats to a fine-looking family!

    • Gretchen, I’m so glad you enjoyed the quote. It’s such a great quote. And isn’t it something how we take our babies home from the hospital, not knowing much except what we’ve read or seen how other friends or relatives deal with parenting. It all seemed to come naturally, thank God. And, yes, the species survives! Thank you, Gretchen!

  14. Congratulations, Lynn. What a blessing!

  15. Thank you, Ruth. Yes, a wonderful blessing. I’m so very thankful!

  16. Nas Dean says:

How did I miss this good news? Congratulations on the Granddaughter!

  17. Aw, congratulations Lynn – that’s awesome. What a cutie! And I love that quote about grand kids… I’m not sure why, but I used to be scared of kids. Now I realise, their job is to brighten up the world 😉
